tudor gheorghe, also known as romansoff, is a dj, producer & vinyl collector form bucharest, romania. heavily influenced by the small local underground parties on the electronic music scene in buchares romansoff started collecting vinyl, djing and later on headed in to production. in 2013 he started releasing music on his own imprint, raw tools. a vinyl only series with a raw, analogue, sound which was charted by known artists such as ben sims, mark henning and serge. now picked up by machine musics diesel we bring you two great tracks from romansoffs dark vaults in romania rage machine and in my heart

afr welcome uk based producer tomas rubeck for their 4th release with the fm ep. rubeck serves up 2 slices of dub infused deep techno, laden with atmospherically processed field recordings, crisp beats and sub aquatic synthesis. two special remixes are also included which are an amalgamation of both tracks. spanish duo exium are first up who take things down a more trippy, hypnotic road, followed by animal farms quail whos pulsing, broken beat effort further deepens the ep. all tracks mastered by conor dalton @ glowcast mastering.

tian gjevik (eod,cn), passionate and curious about electronic music, found in a trondheim thrift store a tape of the norwegian legendary project : the educational music -sports/tools-. he contacted one of the two composers called dildrian schrodinger. he has managed to negociate with him a deal for a vinyl license with weme records. we can find in this project ordered by the norwegian state all an experimentation work with electronic machines from the 1980 s. it is sometimes accompanied by a clumsy singing quite modern at that time.

modernista returns with new music from paul bennett aka duster valentine! modthree features two tracks - *overtaking on the inside lane* is a sparse, wild pitch-style rhythm track built around modulating chord sounds. on the flip *apologies apparently unnecessary* is a more individual take on the melodic deep house sounds of chicago that paul first hinted at on modone.

after having their edits ep being played all over the place, politics of dancing strikes again with two killer tracks and some pretty hot remixes from up and coming house wonders, môme & julien sandre. this is acid, chicago nineties deep house, and you dont want to miss it! as usual, limited 300 copies, hand stamped with love.

marking a difference with the previous releases, the sixth chapter of the birdsmakingmachine saga comes as a two-tracker, announcing a special double pack that will be divided between bmm005 and bmm006. the a-side of bmm 005, >icaros<, is an elegant dancefloor warmer that encompasses all the signature ingredients of the birds, dreamy pads, jazzy hi-hats, metallic percussive elements and quirky fx touches. on the flip side we find >inland sickness<, a slightly darker affair fusing together eerie pads, whooshing sound effects, forming an intricate net of sound layers with a refined industrial touch but still bringing the pressure to the floor with a solid drum pattern. bmm 005 is yet another example of the birds’ ability to craft miniature grooves with an attitude.

leo anibaldi and orlando voorn share this excellent release on the italian cannibald imprint. vibey techno/house with clear synth washes and hypnotic chords. as well the a as the b side rely heavy.

bart skils returns to drumcode with his third solo release, shadowprint. consisting of barts famous rolling drums and bass rhythms he has crafted an ep that is exceptionally functional. with each track bart has added character by introducing vocals, interesting melodies and deep percussion to keep it interesting. the ep is made up of 2 peak time tracks that are eloquently put together.

with his first full 12inch release two hearts, jacques bon connects knowledge with freedom and technology and creates a masterpiece of interstellar funk. from paris with love.

blackrose records returns with his 8th vinyl release. adam shelton is the main player here, backed up by the rising star john dimas. two originals + one remix, excellent cuts for the dancefloor.

rick wilhite delivers a super strong collection of tracks made by producers coming from either new york, chicago or detroit. this the second in a 2 part project.

the prolific lord of the isles (aka scotlands neil mcdonald) has had a string of stunning 12 inches over the past few years on labels such as permanent vacation, unthank, shevchenko, mule and of course his four track > year of the city ep< on phonica, which was widely acclaimed upon its release in 2012. this time loti presents two long-form tracks, each a mini-masterpiece in itself. the 10 minute plus >greane< bursts into life after an intro of kicks and white noise hi-hats. it continues to slowly build, with pitch-bent synth lines and a pulsing bass-line making way for a melacholic shift in mood. truly original stuff! on the flip, a swirl of synthetic strings introduces ‘gigha’, in a manner that brings to mind rhythm is rhythm’s legendary ‘kao-tic harmony’, before the drums and infectious acid-line join in. over the 8 minutes they continue to interweave and play off each other to dazzling effect. artwork by jack featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for border community (including the highly praised campaign behind james holden’s ‘the inheritors’, its singles and live visuals), electric minds, warm and of course, phonica.

giallo disco journeys further east with the release of baskin. our first original soundtrack written by turkish composer volkan akaalp for the short film by enfant terrible can evranol (to my mother and father). baskin tells the story of four cops discovering a nightmare of lovecraftian proportions during a routine investigation. this incredible soundtrack is an eastern twist on the works of fabio frizzi, industrially corroded by early 90s r&s records. shot independently in istanbul, turkey, during the height of the gezi riots baskin has been described as disgusting. disorienting. brilliant by horror director eli roth. comes with a full colour sleeve and two exclusive remixes on the b-side by giallo disco heads vercetti technicolor and antoni maiovvi. things are about to get weird...

occasionally jay haze will take some time away from his productions on contexterrior to release music with other labels like leftroom and desolate, or he ll provide a mix for fabric. here, in 2014, jay haze debuts on soul clap - and brings some friends with him. these friends are signor andreoni, an italian producer that s not released a solo record since 2010 (his last was with haze) and the unknown jordy lockruf. -take a dip- is a new-school cut of retrospective italo with those moaning synths perfect for a rimini dancefloor, while the two joints with lockruf provide one clunky, slide guitar twanging disco jam and a shuffling house cut that ever so lightly verges on electro swing - but not too much!

usually found in partnership with blocks on their own narratives imprint, here we find escher flying solo with two beautifully contrasting compositions. deep architecture has already been causing a big stir online due to its wild time signature and off-beat percussive patterns. physically its drum & bass, but mentally its most definitely techno as it pummels with loopy drum insistency. spirit bounce, meanwhile, is a stark and breezy stepper that oozes space and shimmers with emotive synths. its a simple but soulful synthesis many have attempted over the year but only few have mastered... klute, marcus intalex and now escher, too. the return of 31 has been one of d&bs best stories so far this year.

straight out of egypt via berlin comes this excellent two-tracker from the little-known son of sun. according to the press release accompanying the whispers ep, both tracks were inspired by a week sailing a yacht around the black sea. true or not (we have our doubts), there s certainly a sun-kissed laziness - despite weighty kick-drums and hissing, detroit techno style cymbals - about the woozy, dubtribe soundsystem style deep house of a-side -moonchild-. while impressive, the real killer is -whispers-, which peppers a swinging, dance mania style hip-house groove with snaking saxophones and atmospheric, spoken word vocals. it feels like a late night adriatic anthem in the making.

all it takes to distinguish a deep house release from all the others these days is the people involved behind it. in this case, and.id who has proven to be as comfortable as making techno for mobilee, viva music and 2020vision, as he is to produce elaborate jazz arrangements, covering electronic music songs with his jazz trio, is the man behind the first two original tracks for the taverna tracks imprint.

“inverso” is the new vinyl sub-label of kript records, whose concept is based on the meaning that the word assumes in different fields, in mathematics for example the “inverso” ratio means that the product of the variables always remain constant. but the word “inverso” is also a concept that leads to an exact opposite of what it assumes. these two meanings of the word “inverso” inspire all the tracks of the label, characterized by a -noisy and distorted- sound, where symmetry and asymmetry live together and where analog source and analog processing give a great touch of depth.

medical records presents two of the most striking and iconic reissues in its catalog. the lp though 2 years after since the accident continues to carry the torch illustrating the evolving transition between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as rotund for success. this lp seems to move slightly into darker territory in general with its synth textures and slower tempo tracks but overall has a nice continuation feel from since the accident yet with obvious technological evolutions.
